Owl Cupcakes

Süße Eulencupcakes

Aren’t these owl cupcakes the cutest? I just love them so much. In fact, I made them already in summer, because, why not? Once I saw them on Pinterest, I was hooked. Yes, I am also on Pinterest. Feel free to check out my profile here. You need to know that I love birds. Any kind. I especially like smaller birds, but you can basically present to me any kind of bird and I will be excited. So if you combine my love for birds with baking, you got me. Just these big eyes…

Süße Eulencupcakes

I feel these owls somehow belong to the season fall. Don’t ask me why. Maybe it is because of their color, maybe because they are supposed to be wise. So for all the bird and animals lovers, this is a real treat. Of course I had to give each owl cupcake a name. And I would tuck them away for the night in a plastic box in the fridge. Of course it was stupid, because then I almost didn’t have the heart to eat them. Maybe you are as cruel as my husband, who happily munched away Edgar and Ginger and Mister Wisdom without any problem. Just these big eyes…

Süße EulencupcakesI assure you that these cupcakes are going to be a hit. Among adults, too. Fairly easy to prepare and sooo cute to look at.

Owl Cupcakes

Serves: 12 regular cupcakes
Cooking Time: 25min for decorating

Ingredients

  • Chocolate Cupcakes, see here for a 5-minute recipe, see here for a very moist recipe

  • Owl Decoration
  • 100 milliliters/grams heavy cream
  • 200 grams of semi-sweet chocolate
  • 24 Oreo Cookies
  • M&Ms (preferably brown and orange)

Instructions

1

First heat up the heavy cream and cut chocolate in pieces.

2

Pour the hot cream over the chocolate and stir until chocolate is fully melted.

3

Chill in the fridge or freezer for a short period.

4

Smear some chocolate ganache on each cupcake and form the ears with your hands.

5

Divide oreo cookies, be sure that the cream remains on one cookie half. If you want to save oreos, I have also used a thread to cut right through the cream and only use one cookie per owl.

6

Place cookie halves on ganache and use some more ganache to glue on M&Ms, which serve as eyes (the brown ones) and beak (the orange ones).

Notes

Don’t start giving names to the owl or you are in trouble!
