Have you heard of cottage pie? This is a British casserole dish containing one layer of minced beef with some veggies and one layer of mashed potatoes. It is baked with some melted cheddar on top. Typically it is served with peas. I already have the so called shepherd’s pie on the blog. This is a similar dish, however, it contains lamb instead of beef. Since it has been very popular among my readers, I decided to add cottage pie. I personally like cottage pie a lot, probably more than shepherd’s pie. Probably because I was born in Uruguay, which is known for exporting a lot of beef. I find this pie perfect in fall and winter, it is such a comfy dish. May I interest you in making it?
Have you heard of shepherd’s pie? This dish originates from Great Britain. It contains two layers, originally lamb (hence the reference to the shepherd) mixed with a few veggies and a layer of mashed potatoes. This is then baked in the oven and some cheddar melted and browned on the top. I have now also the version with beef available, which is called cottage pie. This is definitely comfort food and not only delicious in winter. We ate this pie for Easter, I did use minced lamb and mixed it with a bit of minced beef. However, if you make the pie entirely with beef, this would be considered a cottage pie. This pie can easily be made in advance and also freezes nicely. If you freeze it, it will need much longer when baked. I truely enjoy making this in advance all stress-free.
Have you ever heard of lemon posset? Apparently this is a dessert from the UK and it contains three ingredients: lemons, heavy cream, and sugar. It is unbelievably easy to make and comes together in less than 15 minutes. Surprisingly, you don’t need any additional binder, no gelatine, no agar agar, the lemons themselves somehow work their magic for this to get to the creamy and mousse-like texture.
