I have decided to theme November: gifts from the kitchen. I really enjoy gifting people with homemade baked goods. I often gift these cute animal cookies; since the last birth was a girl, I made some pink elephants and carried them in a jar (see the picture below). Another good gift is dulce de leche, caramel made from sweetened milk. Today we are going to make fudge with peanut butter swirl and salted peanuts. I made the fudge in a frying pan, so it didn’t take that long. The fudge pictured below was wrapped in parchment paper and then shipped out of the country. Yes, you can ship it and it will keep. It seems to be Murphy’s law, have you ever tempered eggs? The one time it didn’t work for me was when I tried to demonstrate it to my husband. Of course. The one time I show it to my hubby, it fails. Tempering eggs is a common technique for making ice cream, so I decided to give this banana chocolate ice cream with peanut butter a try. I got it from the German blog Evchen kocht. Ironically, it worked for me perfectly again, of course, probably because my husband was not watching.
OK, this post is all about childhood memories. So I was born in Uruguay, in Latin America, right? Meaning that I also experienced Uruguayan Christmas. And one thing we always had for Christmas in Uruguay were these peanut butter truffles. There is a Brazilian brand named Garoto that sells these truffles. All old-fashioned, wrapped in yellow paper with a large red logo saying “Serenata de Amor”, I mean if this is not a poetic name for a truffle, I don’t know. Usually I hoped that my sister would be kind enough to give me some of her truffles since she is into savory stuff (yeah, I don’t get it either). Sometimes this plan worked out, sometimes it didn’t and so on December 26th I was often out of truffles. Rationing sweets has never been my thing, especially as a child.
Eclairs, it is about high time for eclairs again! These eclairs contain a creamy peanut butter filling and some chocolate. If you are a peanut butter fan, these eclairs are for you. If you like eclairs, but are not that fond of peanut butter, I also have black forest eclairs, cappuccino eclairs or eclairs with raspberry filling on my blog. I do recommend all of them.
In case you didn’t know, I am a cookie monster. And I promised to post more cookies on this blog. So here goes: Monster Cookies!
It is time for cookies! How about peanut butter & M&Ms? Perfect combination for me. Some color as a bonus. Remember, I live in the north of Germany, I need some color. So let’s have a look at these little beauties. They are soft, they basically melt in your mouth. If you love peanut butter, they are for you. Because, just in case super soft cookies are not enough, throw in some chocolate. Because peanut butter and chocolate are very hard to beat as the perfect combination. Do I need to say more?
