Pan de Muerto, Sweet Yeast Bread from Mexico

If my company decides to invite for a Mexican celebration of the “dia de los muertos”, so All Saint’s Day, I am in. The most important food in Mexico on this very special occasion? Pan de muerto, this is an enriched sweet yeast dough flavored with orange and anise seed. There are many varieties in Mexico. I volunteered that I would like to make this bread for the event. Because I enjoy baking and I like to try out new recipes from Latin America. So I started doing research, I even did a trial run and then I ended up making my beloved enriched yeast recipe, which I enriched with orange zest. Normally I should have also added anis seeds, but I don’t like the flavor. Feel free to add, I included the instructions below. So let’s get started.

Hamburg’s version of cinnamon rolls: Franzbrötchen!

Moin, or hello my dear friends! Today I brought along a special treat from the city I live in: Franzbrötchen! That’s Hamburg’s version of a cinnamon roll. If you follow me on Facebook, you will have seen questions about this treat because I tried several recipes before I was happy. Franzbrötchen is the signature dish from Hamburg. I can guarantee you, wherever you go in Hamburg, you will smell cinnamon as soon as you come close to a bakery. They are sold everywhere and I would say the smell of cinnamon represents Hamburg very much. Franzbrötchen are a mix of croissants and cinnamon rolls. They have lots of cinnamon and brown sugar, which may caramelize a little in the baking process, yum!

Roscónes: Colombian Sweet Bread Stuffed with Guava Paste

Today I am excited to say that this is a treat you most likely haven’t heard of if you are not Colombian: roscónes. Sweet yeast bread is already a good start, then add some cool guava paste (called bocadillo in Colombia, it has many other names in other Latin American countries) and you have a very exotic mix. I think only Colombians can create something, which is like breakfast and dessert merged into one piece of deliciousness. Yeast dough? For sure! Fancy braiding of said dough? You betcha! Excotic guava filling? Nothing less!
