Cute Hand Pies with Creamy Chicken Filling

Handliche Mini-Pies mit Hähnchenfüllung

Today I introduce you to cute hand pies with creamy chicken filling. These hand pies are perfect for a buffet, as finger food, snack, but can also be served as a main with a salad on the side. The chicken filling is creamy, the pastry dough comes together quickly and is spiced with some herbs. In my opinion the perfect combination when you have company coming over.

Classic French Tarte Tatin

Tart Tatin, simple, plain, classic. This is what you will get on my blog today. Reason for it was a colleague of mine you gifted me with some home-grown apples. So then I thought, finally I have the chance to actually introduce this classic recipe here, even though I have been making it for a while already. This time I wanted to do it the really old-fashioned way, you know, with an oven-proof skillet, with apples, caramel and a pastry dough. Can you believe that classic tarte tartin actually only contains four ingredients: apples, sugar, butter, and flour? You can add some spices such as cinnamon or ginger. But the one made with four ingredients will be amazing. I like both versions. You can see how I make the tart in this video.

Plum Tart with Cinnamon Streusel

Today I am introducing a delicious plum tart with cinnamon streusel. To be honest, I don’t even understand why I haven’t posted the recipe here before. It is a recipe that has been passed on in my family. The tart you see below was eaten by a few people fighting over the last piece. I have mentioned elsewhere that I usually don’t eat more than a piece of all the cakes I produce, but with this tart I was happy to ask for a second and even third slice. That’s how good it is.

Cherry Hazelnut Cake

cherry hazelnut cake

This cherry hazelnut cake is glutenfree and soooo delicious! I especially like the fact that it works well with frozen cherries. I have been longing for fresh fruit and this is the perfect cake during winter, which has been dragging on. Maybe that’s why I got so excited and took more pictures than usual. I just need some fresh color and fruits!

Easy Chocolate Cake with Caramelized Plums and Pecans

schneller Schokokuchen

What my go-to recipe for chocolate cake is? Definitely this one. I don’t even know when or where I picked it up. It probably was passed down to me from my mom as we spent several years in the U.S. in the 80’s, German recipes are usually a bit more complicated. It has been very popular among my relatives. I love this recipe because it can be whipped up in about five minutes. Literally.

One thing I know for sure is that I have seen this cake around a lot. At a lot of festivities. I mean, what beats a cake you can whip up so quickly and which is so versatile? I love that it is so moist! Originally it was a sheet cake, often served with nuts and frosted with some chocolate frosting. Sometimes it was made with cherries, my sister also used it as a birthday cake for one of her children and used smarties, M&Ms etc. to make it more festive. This recipe can also be the base for a bundt cake.

Blueberry Hand Pies with a Hint of Lavender

Blueberry Hand Pie

It was so much fun making these Blueberry Hand Pies. In fact, I was wondering why I didn’t make them before. While sipping my cappuccino my beloved husband made for me and eating a hand pie as a second breakfast, I really thought something was wrong with me. They are perfect to take along as they fit into any plastic box (no hassle dragging them along), they can be prepared in advance, and they are so small that many can share. On top, they simply are cute to look at and they can be frozen easily.

Lemon Tart/Tartelette au Citron

lemon tartelette

I have been encouraged by a lot of people to start yet another baking blog. I know that there are already a million out there. So why create another one? Baking, in my opinion, is about sharing, it is about inviting others to a special treat. It may sound a bit pathetic, but I bake to bring joy to others. If somebody comes to me after having eaten something I baked and asks for the recipe, I feel happy and grateful. Sharing recipes is what this blog is all about. Yes, there are a million baking blogs out there, I know. I simply want to share some of the recipes I have enjoyed and I know others might enjoy as much. As there are so many good recipes out there already, I usually don’t create my own, but modify the existing ones to my liking. I always rewrite the recipes in my own words and I always link back to the original (you will find the link on top of the recipe). The pictures on this blog are all taken by me if not indicated otherwise and I have full copyright. I bake at home, I don’t have a KitchenAid (yet) and usually I don’t require fancy utensils.

lemon tarteletteFor my first recipe I chose a lemon tartelette. I chose this recipe, because I am in need of some color. Winter has been dragging on and I would like to sprinkle my surroundings with some fresh yellow. If you have ever been to France and tried a real tartelette au citron, you never want to go back. So tangy, so good! I especially like the little almond flour of the pastry dough, which complements the strong lemon flavor.
