Scottish Tablet or Fudge

I think I have mentioned that we went to Scotland in fall. You know what we ate a lot? Tablet or Scottish fudge. Their version is slightly harder, it has a more sandy texture. Funnily enough, my husband knows something pretty similar from Colombia, which he calls “panelitas”. Obviously I had to give this candy a try once we made it back to Munich, Germany. So I quickly looked up some recipes and gave it a go. However, the first batch didn’t really turn out great, it turned rock hard and was extremely sandy. So I had to try again. I scoured the Internet and found the Youtube channel “Granny’s Scottish Kitchen“. This lady has a very unique method, she does it at very low temperature. Yes, you will have a pot on the stovetop for at least an hour, but I was like, sure, let’s try. And alas, her recipe worked. I like its simplicity, you don’t need to stir often, you don’t need any thermometer, you just have to wait for the right consistency and you are golden. Are you interested?

Chocolate Zucchini Cake for my Birthday

This chocolate zucchini cake was served for my birthday a few days ago. Of course I made it myself. Everybody who knows me is aware that I am a huge chocoholic. There is a reason I have a separate chocolate category on my blog. For my birthday I wanted a rich and decadent chocolate cake. Since it is zucchini season right now, why not make a chocolate zucchini cake? However, this time I decided against combining chocolate with a fruit. The most traditional of course being with raspberries. It does not surprise me that the raspberry chocolate cake has been clicked on more than 220,000 times. I have also another popular banana chocolate cake on my blog. If you are interested to learn what I have made for previous birthday check this out. Spoiler: each year I try something different and almost always it is going to be with chocolate. This year I wanted chocolate flavor, so I decided to fill this cake with a chocolate frosting. So creamy and so good, I think it is worth each and every calorie!

Let’s start November with Chocolate Fudge with Peanut Butter Swirl

I have decided to theme November: gifts from the kitchen. I really enjoy gifting people with homemade baked goods. I often gift these cute animal cookies; since the last birth was a girl, I made some pink elephants and carried them in a jar (see the picture below). Another good gift is dulce de leche, caramel made from sweetened milk. Today we are going to make fudge with peanut butter swirl and salted peanuts. I made the fudge in a frying pan, so it didn’t take that long. The fudge pictured below was wrapped in parchment paper and then shipped out of the country. Yes, you can ship it and it will keep.  Continue Reading…

Fudgy brownies

If you ask me which recipe is universally loved around the world, I would say it is brownies. Chocolate in cake form, a delicious square, which can be prepared in under twenty minutes and is the traditional crowd pleaser. Brownies make me happy, brownies are comfort. They are so simple and easy! Oh, and in case you forgot, they have everything to be in chocolate heaven: lots and lots of high quality chocolate, butter, eggs, and sugar.
