Today you will get the recipe for a pup’s cake as our Australian Shepherd Hazel turned 1 recently. She gobbled up this birthday cake within minutes, I was quite surprised. I will never forgot how in August 2021 we picked her up from the breeder. It was a hot day. At the beginning having a puppy is quite demanding. It’s like having a mobile baby, she didn’t know when she simply needed to sleep and got all naughty and grumpy. By now we have figured out how to get along with each other. It takes a while to understand and communicate properly. Currently she is a teenager, just like a human teenager she is a bit rebellious and we need to show her her boundries again. But compared to the first months, I am sure we will get through this as well. But now back to the cake. Our dog loves strawberries and whipping cream. I know that some dogs have problems digesting airy products, so before you make this cake, be sure to check whether all ingredients can be eaten by yours.
As a baking blogger it was pretty obvious, I wanted to bake a cake for my pup for her birthday. I mean, if we as humans get a birthday cake, our pup also needs to get one for her birthday. So I started doing some research. I thought there would be plentiful of recipes, however, I was mistaken. Most of them seemed pretty bland or were not a proper cake. However, I am happy I found below recipe, which she loved. The cake can also be eaten by humans. It is not very sweet as dogs shouldn’t get too much sugar, but you can give it a try if you want.
This pup cake can also be eaten by humans. Make sure to check with your vet whether your dog can eat all ingredients. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place 4 cake rings with a diameter of about 7cm on it. You can use other oven-proof bowls, just be sure to have a similar size. Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Mash the banana with a fork in a bowl. Add peanut butter, egg and honey and whisk until combined. Add flour, rolled oats and baking powder, then stir in the water until homogeneous. The dough will be thick. Divide evenly between the cake rings and bake for about 15-20min. An inserted toothpick should come out clean. Let cool completely. You can freeze the single cake layers if tightly wrapped, we will only need two for this birthday cake. Beat cream until stiff. Wash the strawberries, take off green part and cut into small cubes, leave some whole for the top. Spread some whipping cream on the below layer and sprinkle with strawberry cubes. Then place the second cake layer on top, spread again whipping cream and decorate with the remaining strawberries. You can use a knife to smooth out the cake.
