Give Away for World Bee Day and Honey Lavender Bundt Cake

Honig-Lavendel-Gugelhupf

May 20th is the worldwide Bee Day. For that reason I decided to publish a recipe with honey, today you will get a honey lavender bundt cake. In addition, I am giving away 1x honey jar from Münchner Honig, which was produced by the bees you see pictured here, 1x set of bee wax papers from Little bee fresh and 2x seeds to make a tiny meadow on your balcony to give the bees some flowers to take nectar from. How to be part of this, I explain below.

Did you know that working bees only live for six weeks? During that time they produce about a teaspoon of honey. Next time you complain about the price of honey, you know why. Considering that bees need to fly three times around the earth in order to produce one jar of honey, I would say honey is pretty cheap, don’t you think?

There are about 1,000 beekepers in Munich alone. Beekeeper Ines Zirnbauer runs Münchner Honig, so honey from Munich as a hobby. She was kind enough to allow me to take pictures of her while she was bee-keeping. While doing that, I learned a lot about bees. I am still amazed as to how much a bee is able to do (they have different jobs during their lives). At least I was not aware how much effort is put in one jar of honey. To think that for below recipe about 85 bees had to work all of their lives in order to produce the honey needed… wow, I never thought about that.

Decadent Nutella Chocolate Cake

Umwerfend leckere Schoko-Nutellatorte mit Heidelbeeren

Finally, this is a chocolate and Nutella lover’s dream come true. Decadent, delicious, and so, so good! It may be rather small in diameter (18cm/7inches), but my, my, my. As this is a very tall cake (14cm), you can serve very small pieces and still serve a crowd. Let me introduce you to a chocolate cake with Nutella filling and frosting and a lot of blueberries.

Pavlova with Mango

Pavlova mit Mango

Pavlova, a meringue nest with whipped cream and mango filling, who wants a piece? I am going to introduce this recipe from Australia/New Zealand to you. Reason for this being my hubby, who requested pavlova for our 12-year anniversary. There is a similar recipe in Colombia, called merengón with berries, whipped cream and meringue. No wonder that he wanted something similar. Pavlova is, compared to meringue, slightly different. You do have a crunchy outside, yet since you fold in a bit of cornstarch and vingear, the inside remains creamy (see picture below) which is similar to marshmallows. Does this sound like something you are into? Then you should give pavlova a try.

Pink Raspberry Birthday Cake

Pinke Geburtstagstorte

Did you have fancy birthdays when you were a kid? I mean, I do know that we celebrated, but I feel back in the days there was much less hassle. Today everything is planned and thought of, be it the invitation, the decoration, the cake, and of course the gifts. I don’t know which one is better, but I do know that I would have like a very pink birthday cake on my birthday as a girl. Since I love raspberries, I for sure would have liked a very pink raspberry cake. I do not recall ever getting such as cake, but why not make it now? With this blog post I also have the pleasure as giving these sweet little cake toppers away you see on the cake. They are from the talented Ellen Martens.

Plum Tart with Twin Dough

Zwetschgentarte mit Zwillingsteig

May I present plum tart with twin dough! I have to say, I love this season, it is my favorite time of the year. Indian summer, I just love a good late summer day, with colder nights, but still nice clear skies and this wonderful golden light. One plus of this wonderful time is that plums are in season. My husband loves plums, if it were for him to decide, he would eat them all year round. There is a reason I have quite a few plum recipes on the blog. For example Kaiserschmarrn or broken-up pancakes, plum tart with cinnamon streusel, plum dumplings or Bavarian plum cake. Now this is one more to add.

Espumillas from Ecuador

Espumillas aus Ecuador

I am so excited to be finally introducing a special treat from Ecuador. Espumillas are something like a love child between a marshmallow and meringue, flavored with fruit. Normally you simply beat egg whites into meringue at the same time you add the fruit puree, however, I decided to go for a more complicated version. Reason for this being that I try to reduce the amount of sugar you need. My recipe still is fairly sweet, but it is definitely not as overboard as just beating egg whites with the fruit puree. If you are into creamy marshmallow, eaten from an ice cream cone, this treat may be for you.

Classic Cherry Pie

Amerikanischer Cherry-Pie

If you are married to a huge cherry lover, and I am talking about a pound per day, you may think that said cherry lover would like to try a cherry pie. So I decided to give it a go and made a classic cherry pie as known and loved in the U.S. I find American recipes very sweet, so I reduced the amount of sugar. Also, as is typical in the U.S., I used water instead of an egg to bind the dough. And then I presented below pie to my cherry lover. When he took the first bite, he didn’t say anything, but instead simply asked for more within seconds. Obviously this was a huge hit!

Fruity Apricot Rosemary Layer Cake

Aprikosen-Rosmarin-Torte

Have you ever tried the combo apricot with rosemary? My apricot rosemary jam became so popular that I decided to invent a cake with this flavor combination. I find that it is perfect in summer, it has this fresh taste to it and feels light and fluffy. So here you go, here you get a very light sponge cake, which is filled with an apricot cream and topped off with some caramelized apricots. Yum, so good!

Delicious No-Bake Strawberry Cake

Gesunde Erdbeer-Joghurttorte mit Mandelboden

Update: I rewrote the recipe a bit in 2021 and took fresh pictures

It’s summer! Officially! So I need something fast, something refreshing and also something healthy. That’s why I invented this frozen strawberry cake, which can be done in less than 15 minutes. It is pleasing to the eye and everybody will love it, I promise. It may be one of your new go-to recipes. I at least have it stored as a new favorite. I honestly was surprised. I usually don’t invent cakes. I like to change recipes to me liking, I like to alter them. But start one from scratch? I don’t know what happened, but for some reason I just felt like throwing some strawberries together and hope for the best. I usually don’t mind following a recipe, but this time it was just an impluse reaction, why not mix strawberries with some crunchy almonds? I took quite a risk there, because this cake was a birthday cake for a friend of mine. And since he likes strawberries and since it is summer, I came up with this beauty.

Snow White Cake with Strawberries

Donauwelle mit Erdbeeren

We finally need another German recipe on the blog, for that reason you will get the typical Snow White Cake aka Donauwelle. But I am serving this classic with a twist, you will get it with strawberries instead of cherries. This cake contains a marbled cake base (another super German recipe) into which you press some cherries (normally), followed by a layer of German buttercream and topped off with a chocolate layer. Beside the Black Forest Cake this Snow White Cake is super German for me. But since I was not in the mood for canned cherries, I decided to use a lot of fresh strawberries, so my buttercream contains chunks of strawberry. The chocolate layer also has some strawberries tucked inside. Because why not?Donauwelle mit Erdbeeren Continue Reading…
