Simple Nut Cake (Very Old Recipe)

This very simple nut cake was passed on to me. It was passed on by another user from the German platform nebenan.de. I didn’t specifically ask her for this recipe, but she wanted to introduce me to this recipe from her great grandmother she is still making regularly. Of course I was happy to receive said recipe. Especially in fall and winter I do enjoy a simple nut cake. As is often the case with old recipes, there were no instructions. I simply assumed that it follows the regular creaming method, which means that you first beat butter with sugar, add eggs and lastly flour and all other dry ingredients. I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised how nice it tasted. I believe adding milk makes it so moist and delicious.

Simple Apricot Coffee Cake

Sssshhhhh, I have to share a little secret with you. When I baked this cake for the first time, it was gone so quickly, I didn’t manage to take any pictures. So I made it a second time. Which was also gone in a jiffy. This meant but only one thing, it was worth making it onto the blog. Think of a simple coffee cake that has two layers of apricots added to it. Then you get this simple apricot coffee cake. The best thing is, if prepared the day before, the flavor will intensify, so yes, you can also make it in advance.

Rhubarb Cake with a Pattern (Upside-down Cake)

Are you in the mood to create a cake that has a super pretty rhubarb pattern on top? Sort of like a puzzle? Then you should try this rhubarb cake. It is an upside-down cake, this means, you will have all the time of the world to create the pattern on the bottom of the springform before you even start preparing the batter and fill it up. Once everything has been baked, you are going to flip the cake upside-down. So now the pattern will show on the top, it is so pretty!  I personally find this so relaxing, it is so much better than yoga. It feels like a puzzle when you move the rhubarb pieces around to your liking.

Moist Blood Orange Pound Cake

This is a moist blood orange pound cake. If you don’t find blood oranges, you may also use orangic oranges. This is one of those recipes when I was watching the reel from Küchenstübchen (in German) while my hubby was watching me. He immediately requested I make this asap for him. I mean, yes, he does love anything citric, there is a reason I have an blog article with 18 recipes with citrics on here. Does he love lemons? Yes, for sure! How about limes? Of course! Orange? Yeah! Blood oranges even more so. For that reason I set to making this recipe. When I made it the first time in February, it was easy to find oranges and also blood oranges. However, somehow I had difficulty finding organic blood oranges. In the recipe below I give you both options. As blood oranges are smaller than regular oranges, you need to be careful with the measurements.

Candle Cake with Orange Cranberry Flavor

Yay, today you are getting a true show-stopper cake. This one is with orange and cranberry flavor. It tastes amazing and looks even prettier. These candles or the cake can be made well in advance, however, it does require you to prepare three components: the cake, the filling, the buttercream and you will need to assemble and frost it. Of course you are free to use other flavors, I can also imagine making it with gingerbread cake. With this post I wanted to wish you a wonderful season and hope that 2026 is better than 2025! Super Easy and Quick Rhubarb Cake

You need a super easy and quick rhubarb cake that is simple to make and done rather quickly? I got you covered. We are going to make a dough that serves as the base as well as the crumbs. This dough does not need to chill like pie crust and this is also the reason why the cake is in the oven rather quickly. The filling also has to be prepared, but not be heated, it will be placed raw on the base and then baked to perfection. In Germany this cake is traditionally served with a dollop of whipped cream and/or icing sugar sprinkled on top. I originally had planned to dust the cake before taking pictures, but I somehow forgot. I digged into the warm cake and devoured two pieces, that is how excited I got!

It needs about 20 minutes to prepare and then has to be baked for almost an hour, but I believe it is so worth it. My husband ate this cake single-handedly within a few days and requested for me to make it again very soon.

You need to serve the cake immediately, otherwise you may see something similar as I did, mainly that the plums move towards the plate.
