Mango Swiss Roll

Today you will get a Swiss roll again. It is one of my favorite cakes, so I have a lot on my blog. However, since the last one is about a year ago, I finally thought it would be OK to introduce one again. The previous one was a strawberry Swiss roll, but this time it is with mango. The batter contains oil and milk and thus probably does not count as a traditional sponge. However, it is more elastic that way and is also easy to make for beginners.

Simple Strawberry Cake

This simple strawberry cake is perfect for any summer gathering, it is easy to transport and has this vibrant color and also taste to it. You may wish to take it to a picnic . It is packed with 500 grams of fresh strawberries and zest from two lemons. I sprinkled it with sliced almonds, but that is optional. Just grab a piece, enjoy the sun and take a bite, yum. Finnish Strawberry Cake “mansikkakakku” and Why I am Celebrating

Today I decided to open strawberry season, I am celebrating with this delicious Finnish strawberry cake called “mansikkakakku” (which literally translates as strawberry cake). The cake consists of fluffy sponge cake, whipping cream and lots of strawberries, I tell you, even though it is only the two of us, we managed to eat this cake within a few days, we loved it. This is the cake version of the strawberry sponge cake. Reason for this decadent cake is simple, I am celebrating. I am celebrating to date exactly six years ago I had a horrible bike accident including brain bleeding, but I didn’t get any permanent damage from it. Tarantella de Manzana, or Argentinian Bread Pudding with Apples

Yay, today I am present a recipe from Argentina, an apple cake slash bread pudding, which is prepared similarly to “flan“.  I was fortunate enough to make this cake named “tarantella de manzana” with tart apples, the variety Südtiroler Apfel g.g.A. When the package arrived with Braeburn apples, I knew exactly what I wanted to make. But let’s get back to this dessert from Argentina. Legend has it that this cake is named after an Italian dance (tarantella) as a) Italian immigrants supposedly invented this cake in Buenos Aires and b) this cake is a bit wiggly when you take it out of the oven. You either need to dance as you are so excited for being able to eat this delicious cake, or the wiggly movement actually is similar to the movement of the dance. Regardless of its origin, this cake is so popular, you will find it basically on every menue of any restaurant in Buenos Aires.

Happy Easter with this Simple Cake in a Lamb Mold

Happy Easter! Today I am presenting a very simple cake, which we are going to make in a lamb mold. Yes, you may make this cake in a bundt cake form, but for Easter it needs to be more special. Mind you, if you make it in a bundt form, be sure to use a small one for about 900ml. What I like about this cake is the fact that it can easily be made in advance and also freezes beautifully. In Germany, it is common to drink Eierlikör (similar to eggnog) for Easter, so if you want and have some at hand, you may add a bit of it. Below I give ideas if you want your cake to be alcohol-free.

Nut Caramel Cake from Argentina: torta Balcarce for my Seventh Blog Birthday

Today I am going to introduce a speciality from Argentina: torta Balcarce or postre Balcarce. This cake consists of sponge cake layers, the caramel cream called dulce de leche, chopped marrons/sweet chestnuts (often replaced with walnuts), meringue, and whipping cream. The cake originated in the town Balcarce (hence the name). It was created by the pastry chef Guillermo Talou in 1950 and quickly became famous throughout the country. To the present day the town Balcarce celebrates a festival. One event is to actually assemble a gigantic cake and eat it. Unfortunately, I did not have the chance to eat this cake when I went on holiday in Argentina in 2018. However, I figured, why not try making it at home in Germany? I decided to make this cake for my seventh blog anniversary, today exactly seven years ago my first blog post went online, so I wanted to celebrate with you with this delicious cake.

Lemonies or Lemon Brownies

We were fortunate enough to go on vacation in the north of Spain and in Portugal in spring 2023. During our trip I got to see tons of lemon trees. Many seemed to be completely abandoned. Some had half their lemons lying on the floor, which made me hurt. So I started to pick them up. Sometimes I asked whether this was OK if I saw anyone around, but nobody seemed to mind. This resulted in me having lots of lemons during our holidays, so I got to work to use them all properly. Zorra from the blog Kochtopf (in German) publishes a lot of lemon recipes. She lives in Spain and often talks about the abundance of lemons available. So I know I would find something interesting on her blog. Festive Dominostein Cake

If you are looking for an impressive Christmas cake, look no further! This Dominostein cake imitates the German sweet Dominostein. The cake consists of gingerbread sponge cake layers, an apricot layer, a marzipan layer and some cream cheese filling. It definitely is a decadent cake, but I mean, if there is an occasion to eat it, I would say it is Christmas!
