Coffee Date No. 18 – Travel to Bayerischer Wald

For our 15th wedding anniversary we went to the village Frauenau in the German forest Bayerischer Wald close to the Czech Republic. We stayed in the dog hotel Gästehaus Falkenau. I didn’t even know about the existence of dog hotels, did you? The hotel is geared towards dogs, meaning they are allowed everywhere, there is no extra charge for cleaning and this particular hotel had a gigantic yard with a spring, an agility parcours and was fully fenced. A dog’s dream come true. Our dog Hazel was extremely excited, you probably can see that on the pictures below. She loves water and was basically non-stop in the little creek enjoying herself.

If your dog is happy, the owners are also happy. Of course we went on hikes in the forest. Since we were there in March, a lot of things were closed, but regardless, the forest was wonderful and there are so many hiking routes to explore. We managed to see the Schwellhäusl (pictured below) and we got to imagine how this forest must look like in spring or summer. Of course for me this was perfect since I love nature and love being in nature. I believe we probably saw three other hikers in total. This is very little for German standards. The country is pretty small and usually you will meet people everywhere.

The owners of the dog hotel recommened the restaurant Re(h)serviert for our anniversary dinner. I was not paid to say this, but this was definitely extremely delicious and worth a visit. You can tell, the food is prepared with a lot of love, a lot of reginal products are used and the deer is also from the region. Of course we also had to try the dessert and decided for a rhubarb coffee cake. It reminded me a lot of the rhubarb tart I have on the blog. I definitely want to make it soon.

It was a short trip, but we will be definitely coming back. I think the next time probably in spring or summer. You can definitely tell that spring takes longer to come than in the city and it definitely was a bit colder than in Munich. In Munich I made this lemon tiramisu to celebrate our anniversary.
