Salchichón de Chocolate or Uruguayan Chocolate Salami

Salchichón de Chocolate oder Schoko-Salami

Uruguayian salchichón de chocolate or chocolate salami is one of my favorite cookies from Uruguay. I decided to introduce this cookie during my cookie week. This is recipe number 2. You will find something similar in Italy, but since we are in Uruguay, of course we have to add the Latin American touch to it: dulce de leche. How to make dulce de leche from scratch I do explain in this blog post. And don’t you agree, doesn’t it look for real? If Uruguayans are good at something, it’s magically making something special out of the ordinary. Just like these salami cookies. You know, you basically throw together the ingredients, chill them, and then you cut off your salami slices. Well, OK, my version has you roast the hazelnuts, melt the chocolate and crush the cookies, but then you are actually good to go. Doesn’t this sound awesome?

Pumpkin Cookies with Cream Cheese Frosting

Rezept für Kürbis-Cookies mit Frischkäse-Topping

Are you in for a pumpkin cookie with cream cheese frosting? Then I might have something for you. This is a cake-like pumpkin cookie that is very soft and has a not too sweet cream cheese frosting serving as a nice contrast. You may not think much about it, but here in Germany pumpkin is usually not served in sweet goods, you will find tons of savory recipes, but sweet ones not so much. I sometimes wonder why. There is a reason why pumpkin is very popular in North America in any baked goods, it has a sweet kind of flavor and carries a lot of fall flavor, makes sense to me. So let’s give these cookies a try!

Himbeer-Schoko-Cookies

Did anyone say you can’t bake cookies in summer? Ha, I would like to disagree with that statement, these raspberry chocolate cookies are prefect for summer. Raspberries, seriously, fresh raspberries scream summer all over. So here you go. I love raspberries with chocolate, in my opinion one of the best flavor combinations. If you don’t want to bake this, go ahead and look for something else, but I am in love with these chocolate raspberry cookies!

Simple and Delicious Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

Unaufgeregte Schoko-Haferkekse

These simple and delicious oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are perfect for any and every occaison. They contain a lot of oatmeal, are chewy, with a nice buttery flavor, and contain a lot of chocolate chips. I love cookies this way. Apparently I am not the only one who loves these cookies. I invited a whole bunch of girls for coffee the other day and these cookies were gone so quickly, I was really surprised. Several asked for the recipe. That is always a good sign.

Unaufgeregte Schoko-HaferkekseYou need to know that baking cookies is something only reserved for the holidays in Germany. Baking cookies throughout the year is something that is only starting. Finally it is possible to find cookies in bakeries, but usually only a few different ones. I am so glad that this is finally changing. Funnily enough, if you offer a cookie to anyone, young or old, people will not decline. But for some reason we still don’t bake as many cookies as Americans. Hopefully that will change soon. Especially since I am a huge cookie monster and love cookies any time of the year. Especially such a classic oatmeal chocolate chip cookie like this one.

Ginger Cookies or Biscoff Cookies

Einfacher Gewürz-Spekulatius zum Ausstechen

As is tradition in Germany, we are celebrating the advent, waiting eagerly for Christmas. Therefore each Advent Sunday (there are always four in total, leading up to Christmas) is super special and for that reason I brought along some ginger cookies or Spekulatius, the German name for these nicely spiced cookies. I decided to make them with a neat little cookie cutter, it was so much fun cutting out my blog name. Look at it, such fine and thin lines! If you are scared of  sugar cookies or shortbread, don’t be, I give a lot of tips in this blog post.

Alfajores Marplatenses: The Best Cookies from Uruguay

Alfajores aus Uruguay

OK, yes, I am watching the world championship of soccer. That’s because my birth country Uruguay made it to the quarter finals, beating the former winner of the European cup Portugal, yay! For that reason I felt like making alfajores, these are the best cookies from Uruguay. Originally alfajores are from Spain. Don’t ask me how they are made in Spain. All I know is that the Uruguayan version is always a sandwich cookie, similar to sugar cookies. These cookies, however, are a little bit drier and crumblier. That’s because they are filled with dulce de leche, caramel made from sweetened milk. The dry cookie balances out the sweet dulce de leche nicely. Since I am a chocoholic, I had to go with the chocolate version, which means that the sandwich cookies are dunked in chocolate. How can this not be good? Officially these are called alfajores marplatenses, mar de plata is in the very East of Argentina.Alfajores can be found everywhere in Uruguay and Argentina. You will find them in school lunchboxes as well as a sought-after souvenir in airports. What I like about my version is that you can easily keep them for weeks as the chocolate serves as a protective layer. However, I do hope that your cookies will not last as long. At least mine were gone within minutes when I made them.

Let’s Celebrate with a Cookie Monster on a Skillet Cookie after my Accident

cookie monster cake

Guys, I feel like celebrating with this cookie monster cake! Some of you may have seen it on Facebook that I had a bike accident a while ago. Not to bore you with the details, but I was in the hospital for almost a week and on sick-leave for four more weeks afterwards. So I had to stay in bed a lot and I felt like comfort food. As a proclaimed cookie monster it was quickly decided that it was going to be a skillet cookie. I mean, if you don’t make the cookie monster on top, you don’t even have to form the cookie, you just pat everything into a skillet.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chunk Cookies with Caramel and Sea Salt

Cookies are my weakness. Every time I pass a bakery, I have to quickly check whether there are any cookies on display. Peanut butter and chocolate chunk cookies are one of my favorites. Especially if combined with caramel and sea salt. So I decided to create my own version of this coffee shop classic!

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chunk Cookies with Caramel and Sea SaltIf you use my recipe, you will get about 12 cookies. They are large. Bakery-style. Obviously you can make them smaller, but be sure to check baking time if you do. And believe me, one cookie will satisfy your cravings. Friends, it is time for a special chocolate chip cookie! One with brown butter and sea salt, because I am into that. Maybe I am lame, but I don’t care, I am in love with chocolate chip cookies. In case you didn’t know, I looked high and low before finally settling on this recipe for the traditional chocolate chip cookie.
